The Stale Curriculum Killer

My middle child had become incredibly bored with his normal curriculum. eFantasmic got him interested in learning again! Thanks eFantasmic!

Laura M. - Ohio

Errands The Easy Way

I had a whole day of errands to do. You know the kind of day. I was going to be in the car all day, and the kids were going to be trapped in the car with me. A few quick print outs from eFantasmic and they had fun the whole day, and even when we went into the insurance company office and they had to sit there for nearly two hours, they had their books and sheets and were happy. Now they want to know when we are going to have car day again.

Janey S. - Florida

Reading Day

We built reading day around eFantasmic curriculum. Now every Tuesday we get to lounge around in our pajamas, me on the sofa, them sprawled out all around me. We read, munch, talk about books and have the best together times ever. It's so relaxing just to be able to talk to my kids and discuss things. I am so thankful for your discussion sheets. I get to check them off as we talk about stuff, then they go right into my portfolio. My state doesn't require one, I just think of it as my scrapbook. The best part is when daddy comes home. They all jump up, and run over to show him all the stuff they did. I just wanted to thank all of you at eFantasmic and keep it coming!

Emma R. - Texas

I can’t believe how much stuff I get. I don’t know how you guys do it, but please keep doing it. My kids absolutely love your curriculum. They always ask me if there is any new stuff they can browse through. Thanks and keep going!

Sally L. - Indiana

The Trip To Grandma's

We had to go on a trip to grandma’s. I couldn’t imaging lugging all our school books with us. eFantasmic was the perfect thing. I printed out a bunch of stuff, and off we went. Normally they just watch TV at grandmas the whole time. They had fun, I was happy they kept doing school, and it was a great trip.

Jen W. - California

The Living Book Story

Dear eFantasmic,

I had my first living book experience yesterday. I never really understood the power of a living book until I walked in on my daughter. She was sitting in her room crying. When I asked her what was wrong, she explained to me that in one of the books she was reading, there was a character of a little girl traveling west in one of the Oregon Trail wagon trains. One night this little girl was asked to make soup for everyone. So she and a smaller child went and gathered vegetables for the soup.

It turned out that one of the vegatables that she put in the soup was a deadly poison and two little boys died from eating the soup. It effected my daughter so deeply, that she never forgot that story. Later when we were doing the eFantasmic curriculum, one of the questions was about that incident. It was then that my daughter told me, next time we go to one of the homeschool park days, she was to watch out for the littler kids, they are always putting things in their mouth.

So my daughter got to have a life lesson, without all the pain. That's the power of a living book. So please give us more living book curriculum!

Sandy L. - Georgia

Pre-Dinner With eFantasmic

I found one of the best uses for eFantasmic that I had to tell you ladies about. I call it the Pre-Dinner Video. What I do is look through your site to find the new videos you just added. I found several at my local library. One they didn't have but they were happy to order for me. Then when it's time to cook dinner my kids usually just watch TV. So instead I told them they could watch any of the videos I picked from the library.

They usually don't watch the whole video at one time. So I let them watch half an hour or so until I am done with dinner. Then by the end of the week they have watched the whole video and I can sit down with them and use the curriculum you so kindly provided me with.

I love it. They get to watch TV and I feel better they are doing something educational, and the best part of the whole thing is that at the end of the week I have sheets for my portfolio!

So make some more video curriculum! Thanks for everything and keep it up.

Do You Want Your Child To

Love Books, Learn More And Enjoy

The  Whole  Process?

iStock_000004123700XSmall.jpgFirst, it sparks and protects your child's love of reading. If your child doesn't love to read, expose them to a few of these books and watch all that change! If your child already loves reading, then these books will just spark their interest in more topics, and more books.

Second, it teaches in a fun and interactive way based on the latest research. Each curriculum includes fun activities to help reinforce the concepts and ideas in an Active-Learning way!

Third, it teaches your child Socratic Whole Book Learning™. How many books have you read that you don't remember many details from? The reason we don't retain as much from what we read is that we were all taught to read in a fragmented way. This curriculum teaches and encourages Whole Book Active Learning.

How Does It Spark and Protect My Child's Love Of Reading

We do two things. First we start with the most interesting, colorful living books in the library. These are books that don't just teach like a textbook, these are engaging stories that draw your child into the book. These are mostly Living Books.

We also like to find series of books whether they are fiction or non-fiction. The idea is to expose your child to as many different series as possible. We all grew up on these: Hardy Boys, Nancy Drew and other series. Once your child gets hooked on a series, asking them to read is not a problem. They want the next book, and the next and the next. The more they read, the more skilled they become, and they move on to more advanced books.

How Does It Teach In a Fun and Interactive Way

Each curriculum comes with a series of vocabulary words and key concept/discussion questions. That's not the interactive part! Next you get the normal crossword puzzles, word searches and typical activities. These are all designed to reinforce what your child is learning.

But we take it one extra step. Actually 17 or so more steps! We include a whole series of Active Learning Activities in a FunPack. These are activities and games that are based on the latest research on the most effective ways to teach, and more importantly improve learning significantly. These are difficult if not impossible to do in a Public School setting, but work perfectly in a homeschool! So for each book, you get a whole extra FunPack full of active learning activities.

What Is Socratic Whole Book Learning™

All traditional curricula that exist today is taught using Fragmented Learning. You know what I mean: "Today we are going to learn this." This has been proven scientifically to be the absolute worst way to learn. It was introduced to Europe and then in America in the late 1800s and early 1900s to teach children to operate factory machinery. It's stuck with us ever since. It seems logical. Today, we are going to learn how to operate the meat packing machine.

The problem is that it doesn't create thinkers. Hey, who wants a thinker working in a factory. You need obedient, complient workers.

After extensive research, scientists have discovered the most effective learning methods. They called it Whole Book Learning, but what they really discovered is the Socratic Method. This method of reading a book start with your child asking questions about the book! Your child doesn't even read the first word until they have burning questions they need answered!

When they start with questions, their brain knows where to file the information they read and learn. They retain more, enjoy it more and learn a WHOLE LOT more. Plus, your child learns to be a thinker!

So each curriculum includes worksheets (and extensive instructions) on how to teach you and your child effective Socratic Whole Book Learning!

™ - Why is Socratic Whole Book Learning trademarked? Scientists figured out this amazing new method, we figured out that what they "discovered" was known by Socrates a long time before that. So we glued the two together to tell it like it is :-)
