He had his courtiers find it and bring it to the palace to sing for him. None of them had heard of it either, but they found it with the help of a servant. The nightingale is later replaced by an artificial bird and flies away, only to return when the emperor was dying. The nightingale saved the emperor's life with her enchanting song. This story by Hans Christian Andersen is a good lesson on not taking things for granted.
